Professor Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu of Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra said Ghana is at the center of a wave that puts West Africa at the heart of global Christianity. The country is embracing the Christian faith that is now becoming part of its identity, Reuters reports.

An authority on African Christianity, Asamoah-Gyadu believes that, “What happens in the minds of African Christians was going to shape church history for many years to come.”

According to statistics, more than 70% of Ghana’s population of 26 million are Christian. Many of them attend church on weeknights and all night prayer vigils are common in communities.

Ghana’s Christians are so passionate with their faith that Bible studies, Christian meetings, advertisements on Christian fellowships are commonplace. During their commute to the school or office, people are reading the Bible and office workers have open Bibles in their desks.

“By the middle of the 20th century scholars…started predicting that Africa (and Latin America) was going to be the hotbed of Christianity,” said Asamoah-Gyadu.
