Muslim extremist group, ISIS, on Sunday threatened to eliminate Egypt’s Christians and vowed to “liberate Cairo,” Ara News reports.
The militant group released a propaganda video which also showed the man who claimed to be responsible for the bombing of a Coptic cathedral last December which left 28 people dead.
The alleged bomber, Abu Abdallah al-Masri, said, “To my brothers in captivity: rejoice, you believers, do not falter or grieve. I swear to God we will very soon liberate Cairo and free you from captivity. We will come bearing explosives. I swear we will, so rejoice you believers.”
ISIS referred to Orthodox Copts as “apostates” and “enemies of Allah” which is the reason they are determined to eradicate Egypt’s Christians.
The video came after suspected Islamic militants killed a Coptic Christian teacher in Egypt’s Sinai region on Thursday.
Fifty-year-old teacher, Gamal Tawfiq, was shot in the head after two assailants followed him from his home to work. Authorities confirmed that this was the second incident of a Christian being killed in less than a week.
Earlier, another Christian was gunned down in el-Arish, and a Coptic Christian merchant was attacked and killed in his shop in January, Christians in Pakistan reports.
Orthodox Copts are the Middle East’s largest Christian community, comprising about 10% of Egypt’s population of 92 million. They fear that the attacks against them are escalating. They have been complaining of discrimination, but no help was given to them.
