Millions of Christians from around the world participated in the “Global Day of Prayer for Jerusalem” on October 6. More than 500,000 evangelical churches joined the event from their home countries and others watched the live broadcast in over 260 million homes, reports The Jerusalem Post.

New York-based non-profit evangelical movement, Eagles’ Wings, started the movement in 2002 and since then, every first Sunday of October has been dedicated to the Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem.

In just a few years, this event has quickly become the largest Israel-focused prayer event in history. —Robert Stearns, Founder of Eagles’ Wings

In an interview with Breaking Israel News, founder Robert Stearns shared a life-changing experience which led him to organize the ministry.

“I remember going down to the Kotel (Western Wall) and seeing the fervency and depth and beauty of the prayer there and thinking to myself, ‘Now, who are these people?’. “These people are praying to the same God that I pray to. And I pray these same scriptures.”

Currently, 1,400 Christian leaders and 500,000 congregations joined the event and Eagles’ Wings believes that, “In just a few years, this event has quickly become the largest Israel-focused prayer event in history.”

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was the keynote speaker at the event. “I am so blessed to celebrate with such incredible people, such inspirational and distinguished religious leaders like all of you, to celebrate the State of Israel, to celebrate this holy city of Jerusalem and of course to celebrate the unbreakable relationship between the United States and Israel.”

Stearns said he finds joy that a Bible verse is realized through the Day of Prayer.

‘Pray for the well-being of Yerushalayim; “May those who love you be at peace.’ – Psalms 122:6

He added that participants sent photos of the event and the organization has received pictures from large churches in cities to small chapels in rural areas. “And to see these hearts turn toward Jerusalem is probably the greatest gift in my life.”
