God wants more for you than you want for yourself. That is a fact.

As an aging millennial I’m in the weird space where I’m learning to walk in the fullness of adulthood, while struggling with the doubt of uncertainty. I don’t know if you know, but uncertainty will cripple every aspiration if you allow it.

So as I numbingly try to figure out my next course of action: go back to graduate school—check, obey God in ministry—check, create a substantial savings account—uhhh checkish.

A limited God is much more scary than an unable God. A limited view of God says that your dreams, the very ones He has planted in your heart will forever remain a dream…

I keep encountering fear, it’s the fear of uncertainty.

Can I be as transparent as possible?

It’s not that I believe that God won’t make it happen for me. Nope.

It’s that my fear says God is limited.

A limited God is much more scary than an unable God. A limited view of God says that your dreams, the very ones He has planted in your heart will forever remain a dream. A limited view of God says that the situation will be overcome, but the outcome will leave you wanting. A limited view of God says that while God is going to intervene in your circumstance, it will always be with the least amount of resources possible. A limited view of God says that while God cares, His caring extends only to your immediate needs.

The church has been recoiling from the prosperity gospel so much that we have reclined ourselves to a mandate of mediocrity. We have gotten satisfied with the ‘enough’ of the world. As if the Messiah we serve died so we could simply have just enough. Christ has come so we may have life, and that we may have it more abundantly.

I don’t speak specifically to just finances, because things of that nature are always subjective. I speak to deep held desires and dreams, plans and purposes…an understanding of kingdom worth.

So my question to you becomes, what area of your life have you limited God’s hand? What desires, dreams, or aspirations have you stifled because you’re afraid…

I’m currently reading Priscilla Shirer’s book: ‘God is able.’ I reached the chapter that deals with the ‘exceeding abundantly’ part of Ephesians 3:20. Priscilla gives an example of her brother-in-law ordering a tiny appetizer on a family vacation because he couldn’t afford to indulge at dinner and maintain his family of five. The twist in the story is, Priscilla’s parents had already taken care of the bill…he was free to order whatever he wanted. The brother-in-law created a solution to a problem that was already handled.

We do that…a lot.

So my question to you becomes, what area of your life have you limited God’s hand? What desires, dreams, or aspirations have you stifled because you’re afraid that if God does come through for you…it will be just enough, and not exceedingly abundantly beyond what you can ask. Worst, what solutions have you created to problems God has already handled?

Have you reclined yourself to such practicality in your Christian walk that your faith is repressed? Are you so focused on using God given wisdom, you remain bound by your limited perception of what God can do?

We serve a God of more than enough. We serve a God who meets us at the point of our expectation, then goes beyond. Trust Him, with your future, with your problems, with your questions….with yourself.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all we can ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen” Ephesians 3:20
